Techniques
and materials: “Safety of the Toadstools” was machine stitched on Water soluble
using multiple types of threads. After
washing the soluble away, the piece was stitched on to black cotton fabric and
some hand stitching was added. The piece
was then stretched onto artist painting canvas. It is based on a drawing in my daily drawing
journal.

Artist
Statement
“Safety of
the Toadstools” was part of a daily drawing series that I worked on during lockdown. I was drawing a series of whimsical worlds,
focusing on healing thoughts. I am a believer that where your mind focuses will
project onto your day, so drawings are a daily affirmation meditation. Thread-painting this piece was a way
continuing this positive meditation. It
added the fun exercise of working with color blending of complimentary colors
to help make colors pop more and create form.
I researched the pointillist paintings to gain additional inspiration.
